Lo Que La Vida Me Robo: Spanglish Girl’s Recap and Review (June 30-July 4)

Ding dong the witch is gone—well—she may be soon… Graciela’s plans are not clear, but by the look of her money hungry eyes, she has every intention of leaving Agua Azul to enjoy the money Fabiola just naively gave her. I have to admit that Graciela had me fooled too; I really thought she had changed! Silly me…

Fabiola reacted to the news that Graciela was her mom just as I would have: “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! No Puede Ser!” lol. But then, she came around and now the two are happily planning a trip to Italy. Like I said above, I’m not so sure Graciela will actually follow thorough. I have no doubt she will leave, but the real question is whether or not she actually plans to take Fabiola with her so that they can spend “quality time” getting to know each other.

I like how these two sugar coat the reality of their situation: although they will be spending “quality” time together and making up for lost time, they will also be running away as fugitives because Fabiola is now wanted by the police. Graciela too is now an accomplice because she allowed Fabiola to transfer all her money to her account to avoid loosing it once the police froze her accounts. Like mother like daughter.

And what about Pedrito! I don’t think he is dead—it was too easy. Did anyone else enjoy the irony of his death? Adolfo, his mini me, shot him: If that is not karma, I don’t know what is. Prior to us finding out that Pedrito’s body was missing, I also felt an uneasy feeling that he may not actually be gone for good. After all, he really does deserve to rot in jail—let’s hope he does.

But now that he may be alive, I can’t help but get nervous every time the camera does a screen shot through the angle of “someone looking in.”  I keep expecting Pedro to be lurking in a corner somewhere. Speaking of Pedro gone, I am so happy Victor and Nadia are together again. Nadia has been through so much—the girl deserves to be happy now.

As for Montserrat, Alejandro, and Jose Luis—well, that whole situation is still all kinds of crazy. I thought it was grossly insensitive for Jose Luis to state that there may be another death if Montserrat didn’t stop interacting with Alejandro at the funeral.  Even more grotesque was Pedro and Adolfo attending Monica’s funeral. At least Adolfo felt shame, but still, that hug between Dimitrio and Adolfo was so awkward to watch, and let’s not forget Pedro’s remark: had Monica been at home ‘like she should be,’ she wouldn’t be dead…

I, of course, disagree: this is 2014— the men in this novela forget women have rights, like the right to divorce (hint hint) and to be in high ranking positions (by the way, the U.S.A., for the first time, has appointed the first female (Vice Adm. Jan E. Tighe) to command a numbered Navy fleet). So for all of the young ladies watching this novela—don’t forget it’s just a novela—Pedro’s comments and ideas belong in a script—not real life. Don’t let anyone ever tell you—you can’t do something because you are a girl. You can become anything you want.

Ok, back to the novela and back to Fabiola, I can’t believe how gullible she is. Although, in all fairness, Graciela had me fooled too: I really thought she had changed! Of course, we still have to wait and see—maybe she has… Those evil eyes of hers are deceiving: she looks like she is up to something. And last, but not least, Graciela returned the will to Montserrat!  I did not see it coming, so now Alejandro and Montserrat can live happily ever after or maybe not…

On a final note, Ezequiel is turning into Pedro part 2. El Capitan Robledo informed Ezequiel that in order to receive immunity, he has to 1) reveal who el Alacran is, 2) reveal to Carlota his true profession and past, and 3) resign from his position. Ezequiel, of course, refuses and when el Capitan refuses to back down, Ezequiel has Adolfo kill him. Adolfo agrees because Ezequiel did him the “favor” of telling el Capitan that Pedro, not Adolfo is el Alacran.

Prior to being killed, el Capitan Robledo warned Carlota that Ezequiel has not been forthcoming about his true actions. Carlota confronted Ezequiel, but he lied and convinced Carlota that she knows him best.

Until next week my fellow Novela Lovers—enjoy the weekend!
