Lo Que La Vida Me Robó: Spanglish Girl’s Recap and Review June 9-13

My emotions are all over the place: One moment I like Alejandro more than Jose Luis, then I like Jose Luis more than Alejandro… Ay yi yi! After this week’s episodes, I can’t decide who Monserrat should be with—here’s why:

Friday the 13th, Monsterrat finds out she is pregnant and Alejandro announces that she CANNOT have Jose Luis’s child… Yes—I know, I’m so disappointed:  I expected more from him.  As Montserrat reminded him, Jose Luis was willing to accept her and Laurito Jr., even when he knew Laurito was Alejandro’s son.  Jose Luis loved Montserrat that much—Alejandro, I fear, does not love her selflessly.

Before we talk about this more, can I just say that I KNEW she was pregnant. Montserrat tends to live in La La Land every now and then. She is, at times, in denial.  Was her dizzy spell not enough? I think we all suspected then that she was—indeed—pregnant.  I can’t remember if Alejandro arrived 3 weeks ago or not, but Alejandro seems certain that the child is Jose Luis’s, so I’m guessing there is no way it’s his.

Montserrat has also made it clear that she will not “lose” the child for anyone, not even for Alejandro.  Good for her! How dare he even ask!  I hope he comes to his senses. Although, already, their plans to leave have changed:  Montserrat fainted as they were saying their goodbyes (#perfecttiming #onlyinanovela).  Did anyone else feel stressed out by the way they took their sweet time leaving? I mean, common! If you’re on the run, hurry it up: say goodbye over the phone and forget the Ipad—grab your son and run.

I guess it doesn’t matter—they’re not leaving anyway. The previews for next week show Alejandro considering Maria’s offer. Little does he know that the brilliant Maria has lost the will to the sneaky and grimey (I can’t remember his name—you know: Fabiola and Graciela’s Boy Toy).  I just want to say: who hides an important document behind a frame at a church!!! Really! This novela is giving me high blood pressure, and Maria, I thought, was smarter than that.

Now, let’s talk about Jose Luis: I think the guy has actually lost it. And who can blame him—he’s has been through too much. I think it’s time to call in Dr. Phil: Jose Luis is about to go coco. He is already acting weird: Playing that creepy tune on the piano and trying to hack into Laurito Jr’s Ipad. In the U.S., not letting your wife have a divorce if she wants one, and stalking her (and manipulating authorities to do so) would be a crime and maybe even cause for concern.

I know Jose Luis was wrong to lie to Montserrat, but I feel like he and Alejandro both are wrong to try to control Montserrat and trap her into marriage (they have both done it). Montserrat has moments when she is a woman in charge, but her lack of control over her love life is a bit much at this point. So I hope she stands firm in her decision to keep her child—maybe this is how the novela ends: Montserrat living in her house, happy, with her children and no husband. Maybe she’ll say, “Adios Alejandro and Jose Luis: You two have caused me nothing but stress!”

Wouldn’t that be something, I think we’d all be surprised but happy for her. Besides, if Alejandro really can’t accept her child than I don’t think she will forgive him.  Another woman who will likely never forgive is Josefina: wait till she finds out Adolfito bought Maria a house! I think Adolfo needs to be true to himself and Josefina—clearly he has feelings for Maria and maybe they are perfect for each other. I don’t think he should continue to lead Josefina on; she will never accept his relationship with Maria.

And last but not least, the happy couples: Refugio and Esmeralda have worked out there problems, and all it took was for Esmeralda to ask for a divorce. Who knew that is all Refugio needed to get his act together.  Then there is Monica and Demetrio, who despite Graciela’s attempts to use Monica to get close to Demetrio, have managed to cohabitate together happily.

And let us not forget Friday’s scene where Monica and Demetrio arrived uninvited to eat pizza and watch a movie with Refugio and Esmerelda. Esmerelda, of course, is still processing the news that Refugio, at one time, was in “love” with Monica.  Let’s just say it was an awkward evening: Esmeralda was so rude! Monica probably just thinks it’s the pregnancy hormones in Esmeralda speaking.

Until next week my novela lovers!
