Lo Que La Vida Me Robó: Spanglish Girl’s Recap & Review May 19 – May 23

This week’s episodes did not disappoint:  Jose Luis became a monster (not literally, figuratively), Nadia reunited with her daughter, and Rosario finally learned Alejandro is alive.  Oh, and let’s not forget Montserrat discovered Graciela was behind the accusations against Alejandro.  Yes, it was an eventful week.

So let’s start with Jose Luis’s transformation from Mr. Nice Guy to Mr. Mean Guy—or as I labeled him in my tweets: Mean Alejandro the 2nd.  Because let’s be honest, his attitude at the wedding was a lot like Alejandro’s attitude in the beginning. When Montserrat returned from having tried to “save” her mom, she was faced with an angry and jealous Jose Luis—sound familiar?

Jose Luis, of course, thought Montserrat had left the wedding because she had found out about Alejandro. So when Montserrat returned to the wedding, Jose Luis was livid: shouting, throwing the cake, ordering her around. He also, quite violently, informed her that he was not going to let her step all over him like she did in the past.  To my surprise, Montserrat seemed upset but tolerated his attitude. Once she explained where she had been, Jose Luis calmed down and they happily rode off into the sunset…

Now, if you ask me, Montserrat let him off too easy. But Jose Luis better enjoy his honeymoon because we all know that once Montserrat learns about Alejandro, and that Jose Luis hid the truth from her, that she is going to be muy muy angry. Rosario is already onto Jose Luis’s lies. She has figured out that Jose Luis knew all along that Alejandro was alive; even worse, that he asked Laurito Jr. not to tell Montserrat that Victoria believes Alejandro looks like her tio “Ajelandro”.

Now, as expected, Maria is also back. Adolfo gave her permission to leave rehab so that she can help him get the will back from Ezequiel.  Maria also told Adolfo about her past with Ezequiel: how he used her and drugged her. I must have missed a few episodes because I didn’t remember any of that.  As much as I want to dislike Maria, I still feel sorry for her—more so now because of what Ezequiel did.

Also this week, Monica broke up with Dimitrio. Monica claims Dimitrio is too closed off.  Of course, we know he is still in love with Josefina. I don’t think that Josefina is interested. She really seems unbothered by Dimitrio, whereas Dimitrio seems overly preoccupied with trying to show her he has moved on. Personally, I liked Monica and Dimitrio as a couple—it’s a shame they didn’t last.

Montserrat also made it very clear to Graciela that she was wrong and out of line to accuse Alejandro of the acts that ultimately lead to his leaving. Graciela, as usual, played the victim: pretending she “had” to do it. Montserrat, however, did not buy her crocodile tears and instead walked out on her because she now realizes that there is no reasoning with her mother: the lady is loca and selfish beyond measure.

Well the week ended with a plethora of drama: Jose Luis chocks Fabiola—I know, see he has become a monster. I don’t like Fabiola and she does push the wrong buttons, but for Jose Luis to chock her… Really? He never even tried to chock Alejandro—well there was that duel—but even then he played the “nice” guy.

Nadia moved into the main house with Victoria and they both learned that Victor is alive. Pedro continues to oppress Nadia, but Victoria—she has Pedro wrapped around her finger. We will have to see how much she influences him because I don’t think anyone, even Victoria can change Pedro. Like I said last week, he needs an exorcism.

Last, but not least: Alejandro and Rosario also reunited and it was beautiful. I labeled it a #KleenexMoment on twitter. The reunion was made possible by the beautiful and gracious Josefina (we all could use a friend like Josefina). To my surprise, Rosario has yet to question why Victor and Nadia didn’t make an attempt to contact her throughout the past years. Alejandro has also informed Rosario that she cannot tell Montserrat he is alive, but Rosario is already disobeying: She has informed Laurito Jr. that he must share with Montserrat what Victoria told him about her uncle “Alejandro”.

Next week’s episodes appear to be as eventful as this week. I think we may be reaching the end, and it makes me sad.  But once Montserrat and Alejandro reunite the novela has to end. Of course, we still have to see what happens with Pedro, Maria, Jose Luis, Fabiola, and Graciela… Ok, on second thought, maybe we have a few more weeks left.

Until next week,

Spanglish Girl

Ps. I forgot to mention how Jose Luis kicked everyone out of his wedding and didn’t give them any cake…how rude.  And Graciela now knows that Fabiola might be her daughter: hmmm, well see how this goes. Will she be nice to her now? Will Fabiola accept her as her mother? I’m not sure.
