Lo Que la Vida Me Robó: Spanglish Girl’s Recap & Review Dec 16-20

This week’s episodes were monumental: Montserrat and José Luis reunite for the first time since she got married; Alejandro and Montserrat both come clean about the things they knew while they were dating, and Montserrat reveals to el padrecito that José Luis is the new capataz.

It was a wonderful novela viewing week: the storyline moved along quickly and we were given much to talk about.  Let start with Montserrat: I don’t get her! One week she is trying to run away to be with José Luis, then she finds out he is dead and she is devastated. Now he’s alive and in the house next door, but she doesn’t want to leave with him! She’s driving me loca!

I feel for José Luis: he “moved mountains” to be with Montserrat, and now she doesn’t want to be him because…well I’m not sure why. First it was because Alejandro would never let them live in peace, and her family needs his wealth. Then it was because of her marriage and doing what is “right” (I couldn’t help but notice that she didn’t care to do what was “right” until she spoke with Alejandro’s bff/priest).  I think she is starting to love Alejandro and that’s the real reason she wont leave.

Watching José Luis cry the night she told him to leave was heartbreaking, especially because his life has been ruined by her family. The worst part is that José Luis’s only crime was to be born poor.  But as Montserrat points out, he did have the opportunity to ask for her and he didn’t, and in all fairness, Montserrat never cared that he was poor.

This week, I also enjoyed watching Montserrat finally take charge of her home. The showdown between her and Maria was long overdue. I kept wondering when she was finally going snap. Maria is out of control! She treats Rosario awful. It will be great see her reaction when she realizes who Rosario is.

I loved the part when Maria entered Alejandro’s room in lingerie and he shut her down…lol. She needs to read the book He’s Just Not That into You. I wonder if they have it in Spanish? Another one who could benefit from that book is Josefina, ay yi yi Josefina! Dimitri and Adolfo are so awful, and the way Graciela belittled her was mean: asking her if she had a mirror, and if so, why she didn’t use it–ouch!

Before I leave the topic of Maria: Did she take the lingerie from Montserrat’s drawer? If so, that is so wrong! Montserrat not only has to keep an eye on her man but also on her chonies…lol.

Friday’s episode leaves off with Rosario telling Alejandro about the work environment during his father’s time. She tells Alejandro how his father used to take advantage of the young women who worked for him, but she doesn’t reveal that she was raped—instead she denies it. Montserrat also pens a letter to José Luis: she asks him again to leave because she has made up her mind to stay. José Luis, of course, doesn’t listen.

Alejandro also tells Montsrratt he is a bastardo and worked as a farm worker at the Hacienda until his father died. He is surprised by Montserrat’s indifference to the fact. She tells him that had she known it before, she may have seen him differently.

Next week looks interesting: José Luis and Alejandro are ambushed and we see José Luis shoot someone. Who he shoots we don’t know, but the teaser makes it seem like it’s Alejandro. We’ll see what happens!

That’s all for this week. Happy Holidays and until next week, take care my fellow novela viewers.
